George Melendez (No. 24)

George was born October 4th, 1974 in a hospital called Hermanos Melendez (no relationship) in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Despite this, George speaks very little Spanish because when he was not yet three years old we moved to Orlando, FL where we lived for the next 18 years.

George was a very happy child growing up with his brother Mike who is 3 years younger than George. They did everything together including playing baseball, which they both loved very much. Since there were no Major League baseball teams in Florida back then, we all became Atlanta Braves fans and we still are to this day. For those skeptics out there, if you do the math, this puts us in the lean years with Atlanta.

We had an addition to the family when George was 16, a little sister. George was so proud and incredibly loving and supportive of his new sibling.

Anyway, George graduated from High School at Apopka High School (Blue Darters) where he played with their baseball varsity team and also was part of the bowling varsity team. George and his baseball team won many awards during the years he attended high school.

George loved modern country music and all kinds of sports. Was very hard working and always gave any project 200%. He installed an irrigation system on our property all by himself and finished the garage with dry wall and closet for his bachelor pad.

Soon after George graduated from High School, the family moved to Houston, TX and George started attending Houston Baptist University (HBU). George aspired to be an architect and later changed his mind and majored in administration to become a hospital administrator. He also played baseball with the HBU varsity team. George was a few credits away from graduating when his accident occurred.
